You have the option to share scan results or keep them private. They also have a separate chrome extension in their free tools section, which will use VT for checking and also has the ability to deliver a disinfected file if possible. The MetaDefender site can be used in the same way as VirusTotal without logging in. Using a free or paid account allows you to look at the behaviour of files you have scanned, or uploaded to the site while logged in to the metadefender portal. VirusTotal is used for its definitions, but it also checks your software for CVE warnings. It runs in basic mode for free so lacks some disinfection ability. Something similar but perhaps more useful is the MetaDefender tool from OPSWAT. No sign of the next version yet and I won’t hold my breath waiting.
